The narrator of this story is a young boy who is extremely fond of his grandfather and wants to be just like him when he grows up. He also loves reading the Koran and going to the Mosque with his grandfather. One day, he asked his grandfather about their neighbour Masood and why he did not like him very much. His grandfather told him that Masood is an indolent man and he didn’t like such people. The boy thought that his grandfather had always owned all the land and he would get it when he grew up. Soon after, he realized that his grandfather took advantage of Masood by waiting for when he was under great financial pressure and took two-thirds of his land. Later on, Masood invited them to join in the date harvesting. Many people gathered to harvest, and as someone hacked a date palm, Masood told him to be careful and not cut the heart of the palm. The boy’s grandfather gave him a handful of dates, so he began to eat them. The dates were divided amongst three men, leaving nothing for Masood, even though they were his to begin with. The boy’s grandfather said that Masood was in debt to him. This made the boy feel upset and realize his grandfather was a very selfish person. He did not want to inherit land that was achieved by taking advantage of someone. The boy’s grandfather then proceeded to head home, thinking that his grandchild to follow. Instead, the boy ran to the river, ignoring his grandfather, and spewed out the dates he had just eaten.
if u were in the place of his grandfather, and Masood was under your debt, what would you do? let him keep the land and you forgetting all his debt, or would you do something different?
ReplyDeleteIf I was in the grandfather's place, I think I would forget about the debt and let him keep all his land because I believe you should help people when they are in need instead of taking advantage of them. Masood seemed like a pretty nice person and I think he had realized his mistake and was repenting it.
ReplyDeleteIn your opinion what do you think the boy will do ? Will he forgive is grandfather or not ?
ReplyDeleteDo you think that what his grandfather did to Masood, will affect the young child as he grows up? Do you think that later on, the child will forget about the feelings of hatred that begins to grow against his grandfather?
ReplyDeleteNikita: In my opinion, I think the boy will try to not get influenced by what his grandfather did and he doesn't really need to forgive his grandfather because he didn't do anything wrong to the boy which needs forgiveness.
ReplyDeleteManpreet: I think what his grandfather did to Masood will not affect him as he grows up because he has already realized what his grandfather did was wrong, so he will most likely not make the same mistake. I also believe that the child will forget about the feelings of hatred because he can't do anything about what his grandfather did and a person can't hate their loved one just because of one thing.
